BIO

Prof. Sinjini Mukherjee is Assistant Professor - Sociology received her PhD in Sociocultural Anthropology from Heidelberg University, Germany. She has completed MPhil & MA in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from University of Calcutta.


Prof Sinjini has a total work experience of over 10 years and has been associated with the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata, Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA and Centre for Social and Behavioural Change (CSBC), Ashoka University, Sonepat, in the past. 


Her research interests largely pertain to the relationship between new medical technologies and local moral cosmologies, perceptions of the human body, and questions of access and equity of healthcare delivery systems. She has been a member of the Women’s Health Institute (WHI) at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, USA, where she has collaborated with doctors, medical professionals and students, to research on the biological and social components of women’s health and illness. She also comes with experience of having worked in the development sector, specifically on healthcare interventions, where her academic training as an anthropologist was brought to bear on issues relating to public health.
