Prof. Reshmi Sengupta

Reshmi Sengupta is Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, FLAME University. She teaches mathematics for economics, statistics, and econometrics courses at FLAME. Dr. Sengupta earned her Ph.D. in economics from Northern Illinois University (NIU), USA and her Master’s degree in economics from the University of Calcutta, India. She also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Health Services Management from the Indian Institute of Public Health, Bhubaneswar. She has over ten years of teaching experience both at the undergraduate and the post-graduate levels in the US and India.

Professor Sengupta’s primary research interest lies in the field of applied health economics. In her research work, she uses large-scale unit level datasets and analyzes those datasets using semiparametric and nonparametric econometric techniques. Her research also encompasses areas like labor supply, mental health, aging, tourism, and economic growth. She has many research publications to her credit. Recently she has published one of her research papers in one of the top international (peer-reviewed) journals in economics, the World Development. She has also presented her research papers in several reputed international and national conferences. She has worked as a consultant in the evaluation of the status of Muslim education in India in the Post-Sachar Evaluation Committee Report (Kundu Committee), Government of India. She has provided her research support for the Economic Survey of Jharkhand 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2018-19, for the Government of Jharkhand.

As her other achievements, one of her research papers got the best paper award in the 13th International Conference of Research Development Association, Jaipur. As a Ph.D. student, she received several fellowships, scholarships, awards, and travel grants. She was awarded the Graduate Dissertation Fellowship for her impressive Ph.D. dissertation work on child health and maternal labor supply. During her graduate study at NIU, Dr. Sengupta received Outstanding Ph.D. Student Award, Outstanding Graduate Student Award, and Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for her exceptional performance in research and teaching.
