The conference is being organized by FLAME University, the pioneer of liberal education in India. The university is based in Pune and aims to impart a broad-based, liberal education that encourages students to think beyond disciplinary silos and fosters conversations on holistic and nuanced solutions to various existential challenges from climate change to pandemics.
The university has four schools: 1) School of Liberal Education, 2) School of Business, 3) School of Communication and 4) School of Fine and Performing Arts that together offer more than 300 major-minor combinations, allowing students to customize their learning to better align with their interests.
The conference is being jointly organized in particular by three centres at the university:
The mandate of the centres is to position FLAME University as the forum of choice for scientifically rigorous, politically consequential and policy-relevant discussions involving the Indian and global intelligentsia. The centres also aim to disseminate the salient insights from such discussions to the academics, think-tanks, media, policymakers, NGO’s and students.
Climate change and India: Implications for environment, policy and international politics
FLAME University is organizing the "Climate change and India: Implications for environment, policy and international politics" on December 9th and 10th, 2021. It would be conducted online given the challenging pandemic.
Impacts of climate change are intensifying rapidly than the scientists have predicted. India has its own challenges with respect to climate change. Globally, India is being looked at one of the major greenhouse gas emitters when the country wants to grow and claim its economic prowess. At the same time, altered weather patterns, threatened biodiversity and lurking danger of sea-level rise to coastal cities pose serious existential questions on the future growth plans.
Not only that, India’s relationships with other countries and political scenario at the global stage is seriously affected by climate change.
This conference aims to provide a platform for experts, practitioners, academicians, researchers and leaders to come together, express their thoughts, suggest actions and intensity the movement to alter the path of climate change. This is the first conference in its sequence, and we hope to build a sustained platform for dialogues through this conference. We also hope to witness cutting edge research being presented by young scholars and provide them with an opportunity to listen to the panel members. Following are the objectives of the conference:
