Ms Vinutha Mallya is a journalist, editor, and educator based in Pune, with over 25 years of experience in the news media and book publishing industries. Drawing on her industry background, she brings professional perspectives to the classroom, equipping students to engage critically with contemporary media and publishing environments.
She has held senior editorial roles at the People’s Archive of Rural India, Mapin Publishing, and the Times of India Group, where she wrote, commissioned, and edited news, long-form features and books, and led editorial teams across geographies. Beyond the newsroom, she has collaborated with cultural and literary organisations to curate discussions and develop initiatives around culture, literature, policy, and publishing practice.
She has been teaching at FLAME since 2023, having previously taught courses at Savitribai Phule Pune University and Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication. She currently serves as an instructor for the National Book Trust’s course in Book Publishing and as an advisor to PublishingNext, a platform for the publishing industry. Her teaching integrates academic frameworks with professional practice, encompassing journalism, reporting and editing, communication theory, and publishing studies.
Ms Mallya holds postgraduate degrees in Journalism (Goldsmiths, University of London) and Communication (Manipal Institute of Communication, MAHE). Her pedagogical interests cover media, technology, culture, ethics, and representation.
