The FLAME Summer Immersion Program- Design offers high school students first-hand exposure to design education within the broader framework of liberal learning at FLAME University. Delivered in an immersive, studio-based format, the interdisciplinary program reflects the University’s focus on experiential learning, critical inquiry, and engagement with diverse cultural and technological perspectives. It foregrounds observation and empathy as core design skills, encouraging students to explore how culture shapes human experiences, objects, and systems through hands-on workshops in ceramics, craft, visual communication, and material exploration, while also introducing emerging domains such as robotics and artificial intelligence as creative collaborators in problem-solving.
Rooted in the spirit of liberal education, the program adopts a five-senses pedagogical approach that enables embodied learning through sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. From pottery and textile dyeing to sound-mapping, food culture labs, and olfactory storytelling, students engage with ideas through multisensory exploration, drawing from indigenous practices and regional knowledge systems. The experience culminates in a curated exhibition of student work, building confidence, teamwork, communication skills, and readiness for interdisciplinary undergraduate pathways in design and liberal education.

FLAME University
Dear Students,
It gives me great pleasure to introduce the FLAME University Summer Immersion Program in Design (FUSIP- Design).
Design today plays a central role in shaping how we experience the world. It influences the products we use, the spaces we inhabit, the technologies we interact with, and the systems that organize our societies. At its core, design is not simply about aesthetics. It is about understanding human needs, approaching problems thoughtfully, and creating solutions that are both meaningful and responsible.
At FLAME University, we believe that the most impactful design emerges from interdisciplinary thinking. Designers must understand not only form and function but also human behaviour, culture, technology, sustainability, and business. This program reflects that philosophy. Through studio-based learning, collaborative projects, and hands-on exploration, students will be introduced to the foundations of design thinking while engaging with ideas that draw from multiple disciplines.
FUSIP-Design offers young learners an opportunity to experience the intellectual curiosity, creative exploration, and collaborative learning that define the FLAME academic environment. Participants will be encouraged to question assumptions, observe the world around them more carefully, and approach challenges with both creativity and empathy.
More importantly, the program seeks to nurture qualities that extend well beyond design itself: curiosity, critical thinking, resilience, and the confidence to explore new ideas.
I hope that this experience will not only introduce you to the possibilities within the field of design but will also inspire you to think more broadly about the role creativity and thoughtful problem-solving can play in shaping a better future.
I look forward to welcoming you to the FLAME campus and to seeing the ideas and perspectives that you bring with you.
