FLAME University Selected Amongst Foremost Institutes as Finalists in Motilal Oswal Investment Competition

Aiming to educate the younger generation on process-based equity investing, Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company (MOAMC) has partnered with The Red Brick Summit, the flagship annual symposium of IIM-Ahmedabad to create an initiative - the 'Motilal Oswal Think Equity Think QGLP Contest'. The contest provides a forum for students to test their stock-picking and investment research skills, present it to a panel, and win prizes.

The Motilal Oswal Think Equity Think QGLP Contest drew excellent response, with 54 institutes from all over Indiasubmitting their entries.

Dalmia Institute, National Academy of Agricultural Research, NMIMS Bangalore, NMIMS Mumbai, S.P. Jain Institute, Shriram College of Commerce, SIES, Siva Sivani Institute, Sri Sri University, Symbiosis Bangalore, Symbiosis Pune, United World School, Welingkar Institute and Xavier Institute of Management were the institutes who sent in their entries as part of the competition.

The various entries were evaluated and shortlisted by fund managers at MOAMC and the top entries will get to present their investing idea at the IIM-Ahmedabad's Red Brick Summit 2017 to a jury panel of stock market legends comprising of Raamdeo Agrawal (Chairman, MOAMC), Ramesh Damani (Member, Bombay Stock Exchange) and Utpal Sheth (CEO and Senior Partner at Rare Group). A team of FLAME University students, Raj Shah, Manav Ruparel and Prashant Doshi, are selected for the finale to be held on October 2, 2017 at IIM-Ahmedabad. FLAME is amongst 13 foremost institutes to have made it to the finals. The other finalists include:

Over the years, Motilal Oswal Group has conducted various wealth creation studies. These studies have helped them hone a unique and focused investing process that can be summarized in four letters, 'QGLP'. Q denotes Quality of the business and management, G denotes Growth in earnings and sustained RoE, L denotes Longevity of the competitive advantage or economic moat of the business and P denotes our approach of buying a good business for a fair price rather than buying a fair business for a good price.

Participants needed to familiarize themselves with the QGLP process of investing, pick an investment idea and give their rationale in a prescribed format.

All applications were evaluated on the following five criteria:

  1. Applicability of QGLP principles
  2. Quality of idea
  3. Depth of analysis/insights
  4. Financial workings/model
  5. Quality of Presentation

The top three teams will receive prizes and the presentations will be covered on CNBC TV18.
