HAPPENINGS @ FLAME

The latest happenings in the FLAME Community

“If I hadn’t joined FLAME University, I would have missed out on a powerful network of knowledge resources,” says Shraman Jatratker, MBA, Class of 2021. The network includes experienced faculty members, driven batch mates, and alumni who have proven themselves in the industry. It was the latter that he tapped into for advice as he prepared for his placement interview with Birlasoft. The insights he gained speaking to alumni working with the company coupled with his own internship experiences helped him get placed as Management Trainee - Business Analyst. He tells us how he cracked the interview and landed his dream job.

This year the pre-placement buzz and stress was magnified with the uncertainties due to the pandemic. But the Finance major chose to focus only on the bright side as he prepared for the selection process with the first company that offered a position in his chosen domain. Shraman talks about the time leading up to the crucial interview as he says, “These were extraordinary circumstances but I believed they would bring the best out of me. Sometimes it’s good to have this kind of stress because it helps you look at your overall career and visualize where you are headed. Being from a non-commerce background, I prepared to clear my concepts as much as possible.”

Interestingly, Shraman’s engineering background also helped him answer the technical questions during the interview. ‘How would you measure the amount of petrol consumed in India?’ was one of the many tricky questions during the interview that he aced. But above all, it was his preparation for the company and the role that enabled him to make the best impression. “The interviewers expect you to know the ins and outs of the company. So the first thing I did was to read enough about the company and the profile. I also tried to visualize what my day-to-day work would look like. Speaking to FLAME University’s alumni working with Birlasoft was also a huge advantage,” he asserts.

Shraman also mentions the benefits of Campus Recruitment Training which offered valuable insights through interactions with industry veterans and senior executives of reputed companies. Multiple rounds of mock interviews, feedback, one-on-one guidance, and the Knowledge Management Portal - a repository of past and potential recruiters; all combined to give him the edge. “My internship with Joindre Capital Services gave me experience on the ground as an Equity Research Intern. Your understanding of various scenarios is judged with questions on the SIP during the interview. Luckily, I was able to answer them without any hiccups,” he says, looking back on the experience.

As he starts off with a role where he will coordinate between Finance and other departments, Shraman is keen to rely on his learning experiences at FLAME University to make his mark. Above all, he values the critical thinking skills he gained during the MBA program. “The holistic approach to learning where the latest events were seen from industry, economy, or socio-political viewpoints, has given me a wider perspective. FLAME Investment Lab is just one of the many initiatives where you can connect with the industry. You can also pursue your own interests like Photography, in my case, at the University. These experiences have made me an all-rounded professional and I am ready to prove myself in the new role,” he concludes.
