HAPPENINGS @ FLAME

The latest happenings in the FLAME Community

"There’s no better way to achieve more than by working together. As a team we can move mountains."- Dr. Vahideh Razmi, Chair, Student Affairs, FLAME University.

FLAME University aims to provide students a learning experience that would excite and enthuse them. The education at FLAME University rests in multiplicity and simultaneity, as well as in making active choices from all that is made available.

With this aim in mind, FLAME University organized a unique orientation program to create a bond amongst the new incoming students of 2017 and between other members of the FLAME community. The program emphasized on the power of working together collaboratively.

The activities organized were on the themes of team work, leadership, support, co-ordination and clear communication amongst others that FLAME University is a strong proponent of.

Discussing the program, Dr. Vahideh Razmi, Chair – Student Affairs, said, “The aim of the program was to put the students through various exercises and simulations which were both physically and mentally stimulating, to boost their strengths and bring out the best in each of them. Our students were faced with challenges and obstacles which of course, are developmentally necessary; they teach students strategy, planning, patience, critical thinking, risk taking, resilience and resourcefulness. Such activities improve problem solving and decision making skills which are extremely important for management, leadership and life.”

The program started with zumba dancing. It was followed by the animal family activity where all students had to find other students with cards that belonged to their own animal families. This proved to be a great ice breaker for students to get acquainted with each other and their backgrounds. Subsequently, students were divided into multiple groups. A series of competitive activities were organised like Pipe and Ball, Cob Web, Paint Ball, Blind Squares, Trust Walk (on the rope), Passing the Water, Australian Planks and Acid River. These activities involved teamwork, trust, support, accuracy, co-ordination, risk- taking, focus, precision, communication and visualization.

The activities through the day showcased the strengths and qualities of the students in addition to getting them to know each other better. It was a fitting way to commence their life as a FLAME student.
