BIO

Sunil Poshakwale is a Professor of International Finance at School of Management of Cranfield University, UK since 2006. Previously he was a Professor of Financial Management, at University of Hull Business School (2004-2006), Senior Lecturer at Birmingham University Business School (2002- 2004) and Lecturer in Birmingham (1998-2002), University of Kent (1997-1998), and Institute of Management Studies, India (1989-1993). He has also served as Adjunct Professor to Manchester Business School, UK and Graduate School of Business of University of South Pacific, Fiji. As a Commonwealth Scholar, he earned his PhD in Finance from Manchester University in 1997. He is a recipient of several prestigious scholarships and was a visiting scholar at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada and as funded scholar to participate in the ITP at Insead, France. Sunil has played a significant role in Cranfield’s growth in finance research and MSc programmes. As Director of finance MSc programmes until 2016, he achieved top 10 Financial Times ranking for its finance masters, got CFA recognition, developed student exchange programme with Freie University Berlin and internationalised the programme by launching it in Oman in collaboration with Muscat University. As a former Director of Centre for Research in Finance, he led the development of high-quality industry and policy relevant research.


He has published over 50 research papers in top finance journals and presented papers, chaired sessions and delivered keynote address in many international conferences and seminars all over the world. He has successfully supervised several PhD and DBA students who now work in prestigious universities and financial services both in the UK and worldwide. He has won best research paper awards and research grants as a Principal Investigator. Sunil was named as the Best Professor of Financial Management by Asia’s Business School Awards and as one of the most influential ‘Management Gurus’ of Indian origin by Business India. He was one of the fifty top faces of Cranfield’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Woxsen University in India has established a Chair in Financial Management to recognise and honour his contributions to finance research. Sunil has examined many PhD theses from universities globally. He has also acted as external examiner to graduate programmes of many prestigious universities including Oxford and City University, London. He has wide-ranging research consulting experience as finance expert on several projects of African Development Bank and Investment banks. As a finance expert for ADB, he conducted studies and developed reports on governance and financial sector competitiveness in Swaziland, Egypt and South Africa. His research on ‘Quality of Corporate Governance and Firm Performance’ has been used by MAPFRE for launching a ‘Good Governance Fund’. His work on ‘Gender Diversity’ was used by March Gestion Fondos in developing their investment strategies. Well recognised for his finance expertise, he is solicited for interviews by print, radio and television media in the UK and worldwide.
