The Discover India Program is FLAME's unique flagship program that seeks to combine academic rigour with experiential learning. It is a six credit course that spans over two trimesters and requires group-work alongside individual skills. The primary site of investigation is chosen by students themselves. After a trimester long research-intense module, during the break between two trimesters students embark on a field trip (of 8-12 days) along with their faculty mentor. In the second of the two trimesters the students must use all the resources they have gathered in the field trip to study their subject further in order to put together a comprehensive Analytical Report accompanied by other submissions of documentaries and recordings, photos, authentic documents collected on site, diaries, sketches pertinent to their subject and their experience. The program culminates in an award ceremony wherein groups present their findings to an external jury in a public environment. In addition to credit gained during this course, the winning student group is awarded a study grant that enables a research project to explore Indian cultures abroad.
