“Detection of Child Sexual Abuse through Graphology” – A Talk by Dr. Devayani Kashyap (Psychologist and Graphologist)

Dr. Devayani Kashyap is a Psychotherapist and Graphologist. She has a PhD. in Psychotherapy and Counselling from International Open Univeristy. She has researched extensively on child sexual abuse and developed a grapho-detection software programme for the professionals working with children. She assesses diagnostic utility of handwriting analysis in psycho-bio-social disorders in India. She has expertise in Psycho diagnostic methods, Psychotherapeutic guidance, and audits in various areas of human resource viz. recruitment, training and development, performance management and interpersonal relationships. She has provided training on ‘Criminal Investigation using Graphology’ to CBI officers and Senior Police officers from SAARC countries. She has to her credit several books and research papers. Her books, ‘Silent Screams’ and ‘Anuttarit’ in the area of child sexual abuse have been highly appreciated for detailed empirical research and insightful data on the social issue.


She was the recipient of the Pearl of Hyderabad title by JCI International and has successfully treated such conditions as depression, suicidal tendencies, anxiety, panic attacks, sexual abuse and a variety of phobias. With expertise in REBT, projective techniques and humanistic therapy, Dr. Kashyap has a strong research interest in the subconscious mind.


In her Talk, Dr Devayani Kashyap will highlight the prevalence, consequences and prevention of Child sexual abuse. She will describe CSA as a significant contributory risk factor to psychopathology, especially depression, disruptive behavior, poor social skills, difficulties in Interpersonal relationships and substance abuse. She will discuss graphology as an effective, non-invasive tool for diagnostic enhancement and illustrate how graphology can be used to detect child sexual abuse. Research on CSA in India needs attention and her research highlights how we have silently witnessed the gross and subtle levels of damage caused to the children which makes it imperative to have prevention programs in our country.
