"Effects of Attention on Decision-Making"
Dr. Narayanan Srinivasan
Prof. and Head, Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences, University of Allahabad

The Centre for Experimental Social Sciences (CESS) Nuffield - FLAME University is pleased to welcome Professor Narayanan Srinivasan, Head of the Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Allahabad. Prof. Srinivasan will be giving a research talk titled "Effects of Attention on Decision-Making."
Abstract:

Recently, dual system based theories of decision making have been proposed to explain multiple phenomena associated with decision making. One version of this approach is unconscious thought theory (UCT). I will discuss simulations that question some of the assumptions of UCT and also present empirical results manipulating scope of attention in the context of UCT. Recently we have focused on decision making that involves prosocial behavior or cooperation. I will discuss empirical results showing the effect of scope of attention on donations. In addition, I will discuss the results of a large scale replication study of prosocial behavior in the context of dual system based theories.
