FLAME University, the pioneers of Liberal Education in India and the only Indian member of the Global Liberal Arts Alliance (GLAA) is hosting The Global Liberal Arts Alliance Institute’s event, ‘Leadership and Liberal Arts: A Foundation for Social Good’ event in its own campus in Pune from June 18-20, 2018.

The Global Liberal Arts Alliance Institute on ‘Leadership and Liberal Arts: A Foundation for Social Good’ explores ways that Alliance institutions articulate the role of liberal education in the development of leadership for social good. This exploration will encompass those aspects of liberal education that Alliance schools have in common and the unique institutional contexts that shape their approaches to leadership and make them vital. This enhanced conception of leadership is one that liberal arts institutions are uniquely qualified to instill in students through curricular and co-curricular programming and through the institution’s own efforts to effect positive change.

The GLAA institute had invited proposals from faculty, staff, and students from all the 30 Alliance institutions for workshops, panel discussions, and case studies that explore the drivers, mechanisms for and challenges of leadership development including curricular and co-curricular opportunities, and how to launch, manage, and evaluate leadership programs. The event explores themes like Student Leadership, Institutional Leadership and Leadership Programs: Where Student and Institutional Leadership Converge, for meaningful community engagement through social entrepreneurship, civic engagement, and community-based research and learning.

Dr. Simon Gray, Program Officer, Global Liberal Arts Alliance and Great Lakes Colleges Association said, “We are delighted to conduct the fourth GLAA’s Leadership and Liberal Arts: A Foundation for Social Good at FLAME University in India. Through this event we aim to articulate the role of liberal education in the development of leadership for social good. The program will help explore cultural dimensions of leadership in a global context that lead to social good, identify best practices for curricular and co-curricular programs and enable sharing of and collaborating on resources for leadership development. We are very pleased to have participants from 23 Alliance institutions, including 25 Alliance students. In addition to attending sessions, the students will work in small groups to discuss leadership and leadership development.”
