Bombay (today's Mumbai) since Indian independence has diminishe
 d in its financial stature. It was once an international city (albeit in a 
 colonial world) hosting foreign banks, diplomats, foreign trading communiti
 es and truly global corporations at the turn of the 20th century. It was al
 so the capital city of a Presidency that once administered overseas Sind an
 d Aden. \n
 This lecture details some early struggles of the city and how e
 vents transpired into making it Urbs Prima in Indis or the foremost city ea
 st of the Suez Canal at a time when Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and New
  York were in their infancy.\n
