Abstract: This session 
 will introduce different goods and property rights, Garett Hardin’s Tragedy
  of the Commons, and Elinor Ostrom’s common-pool resource theory. By the en
 d of the session, students will be able to distinguish between different ki
 nds of goods and property rights through examples from the global North and
  the global South. Students will learn about alternatives to managing the c
 ommons, apart from Hardin’s solutions of privatization and government regul
 ation. Students will evaluate approaches to managing the commons as well as
  challenges of managing the commons.\n
