SUMMARY:Dealing with Ethical Dilemmas - Ethical Decision Making in the Investment Industry
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT FLAME UNIVERSITY\n\nFLAME was founded with the concept of liberal edu
cation as its cornerstone. FLAME celebrates ideas, cherishes diversity, and
strives to deliver an academic experience that fosters intellectual curios
ity, a critical thought process, self-reflection, leadership and teamwork s
kills, a sense of commitment and professionalism and a heightened sensitivi
ty to one’s sociocultural environment. FLAME aims to provide an interdiscip
linary platform of education by propagating different models and paradigms
through, but not limited to, history, philosophy, political sciences, psych
ology, business, economics, mathematics and finance.\nABOUT FLAME INVESTMEN
T LAB\n\nAs part of its endeavor to constantly redefine education, FLAME in
ducted the FLAME Investment Lab (FIL), an initiative that strives to delive
r the concepts and decipher the art of value investing to interested studen
ts. FIL believes in the dictum “invest in yourself”. It provides tools for
self-learning and acquiring knowledge, constantly striving for intellectual
stimulation and asking questions. FIL strives to widen your horizons, aidi
ng you to connect the dots within seemingly disparate information. FIL trul
y believes that the best investment is investing in yourself. As Socrates h
as said, “I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think.”\nOU
R PHILOSOPHY\n\n CFA\n\n“CFA Society India (Indian Association of Investmen
t Professionals), established in April 2005, is an association of local inv
estment professionals, consisting of portfolio managers, security analysts,
investment advisers, and other financial professionals. As one of the over
149 CFA Institute member societies, CFA Society India connects local membe
rs to a global network of investment professionals. The key objectives of C
FA Society India are to promote ethical and professional standards within t
he investment industry in India and to facilitate the exchange of informati
on and opinions among people within the local investment community and beyo
nd. CFA Society India also works to further the public’s understanding of t
he CFA® designation and the investment industry.\n\n\nFor more than 60 year
s, CFA Institute and Member Societies such as CFA Society India, have held
educational events featuring prominent investment professionals and thought
leaders, and as the number of investment professionals across India contin
ue to grow, we are committed to offering quality educational and networking
opportunities in the region.\n\n\nThe key objectives of the society are to
:\n\n - Promote ethical and professional standards within the investment in
dustry in India,\n - Facilitate the exchange of information and opinions am
ong people within the local investment community and beyond,\n - Work to fu
rther the public’s understanding of the CFA® designation and the investment
industry.\n\n* CFA Society India is a registered trademark of CFA Institut
e licensed to be used by the Indian Association of Investment Professionals
.”\nPROGRAM DETAILS\n\nFLAME University and CFA Society India (IAIP), invit
es you to a Workshop on “Dealing with Ethical Dilemmas and Ethical Decision
Making in the Investment Industry” with Ms. Sonia Gandhi – Director, CFA S
ociety India\n\n\nBeing able to work successfully with ambiguity is increas
ingly cited as a critical skill in modern workplaces. Ambiguity presents nu
merous challenges, among them the ability to identify reliable principles t
o base decision making on, and the ability to apply a process through which
to systematically evaluate options for action.\n\n\nEthical dilemmas are a
form of workplace ambiguity, readily generated by the competing priorities
in finance and investment businesses. It is a common misperception that un
ethical action is an uncommon occurrence, performed by already bad people.
On the contrary, ethical dilemmas are entirely commonplace occurrences, and
often result in perfectly good people deciding to do questionable things.\
n\n\nSonia Gandhi, CFA would be conducting a case based workshop, which wil
l broadly have 3 goals:\n\n - Encourage you to become more conscious about
your thoughts and behaviors so that you are more likely to notice, and act
upon ethical issues before they become a problem\n - To recognize that ethi
cal dilemmas are a normal and predictable part of most jobs\n - To discuss
and practice approaches for dealing with ethical issuesDate & TimeSatur
