 \n This talk is an introduction to the energy sector in India and its impor
 tance to the country’s economy and development. It will,present a broad ove
 rview of the current status of the Indian energy sector, primarily focusing
  on the electricity sector. It will outline the challenges faced by the ele
 ctricity sector and will also give a brief overview of the work of Prayas (
 Energy Group). It will also introduce the Girish Sant Memorial Annual Event
  to be held on January 21, 2017.\n\n\nAbout Prayas:\nPrayas (Initiatives in
  Health, Energy, Learning and Parenthood) is a non-governmental, non-profit
  organization based in Pune, India.  Members of Prayas are professionals wo
 rking to protect and promote the public interest, in general and the intere
 sts of the disadvantaged sections of society, in particular.  Their activit
 ies cover research and intervention in policy and regulatory areas, as well
  as training, awareness, and support to civil society groups.  \n\nSpeaker 
 #1: Ashwini Dabadge\nAshwini has been working in Energy Resources and Devel
 opment after joining Prayas in 2015. She is interested in understanding the
  inter-linkages between energy, other resources and socio-economic factors.
  She has a Bacherlor's degree in Economics from Pune University and Master'
 s degree in Economics from UCL, UK\n\nSpeaker #2: Jatin Sarode\nJatin has b
 een working with Prayas since September, 2015, mainly in areas related to r
 enewable energy and power systems. He also has interests in energy storage 
 and electric vehicles.  He holds B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Power) f
 rom Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.\n
