 versity is pleased to welcome Ramaswani Mahalingam, Associate Professor of 
 Psychology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Professor Mahalingam w
 ill give a talk titled "Mindful Mindset, Interconnectedness, and Engaged Li
 ving. His work focuses on the linkages between the following three major ar
 eas of research: (a) Mindful mindset; (b) Cell Phones and Self; and (c) Dig
 nity at work place. Professor Mahalingam heads the Mindful Connections Lab 
 in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Mi
 chigan, Ann Arbor.\n\n\nProfile\n\n\nRamaswami Mahalingam is an Associate P
 rofessor of Psychology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has a d
 egree in Civil engineering and worked for eight years as a design engineer.
  He worked various jobs (street theater, as a script writer, security guard
 , janitor, dishwasher, cashier, cook, bartender, preschool teacher, data an
 alyst and program evaluator) before settling as a developmental psychologis
 t after completing his PhD at the University of Pittsburgh. He studies mind
 fulness in organizations with a focus on leadership and employee well-being
 . His current research focuses on three major areas: (a) Cell phone and sel
 f; (b) Dignity at work place; and (c) Mindfulness.\n\nProfessor Mahalingam 
 has received numerous awards, including the Best Paper on Diversity Award, 
 given by the Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan, the Fl
 orence L. Denmark and Mary E. Reuder Award for Outstanding International Co
 ntributions to the Psychology of Women and Gender from Division 52, given b
 y the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Outstanding Teaching
  and Mentoring Award in “recognition of outstanding teaching and mentoring 
 in areas related to psychological study of social issues” by APA. He has pu
 blished numerous academic articles in well-regarded peer-reviewed journals,
  including the Annals of Behavioral Medicine, the Journal of Cognition and 
 Culture, and Women’s Reproductive Health. Professor Mahalingam has authored
  two books, one published in 2000 titled “Multicultural curriculum: New dir
 ections for social theory, practice and policy” and another published in 20
 06 titled “Cultural Psychology of Immigrants.” He is also preparing a third
  book project provisionally titled “Celf: Mobile identities in the making.”
