 versity is pleased to welcome Sunil Bhatia, Professor of Human Development 
 at Connecticut College. Professor Bhatia will be presenting his new book "D
 ecolonizing Psychology: Globalization, Social Justice and Indian Youth Iden
 tities." His research focuses on the development of self and identity withi
 n the postcolonial contexts of migration, globalization, neoliberalization 
 and formation of transnational diasporas. His scholarship specifically exam
 ines how concepts such as culture, power, and representation shape theories
  of acculturation, racial, and cultural identity in human development, crit
 ical and cultural psychology. \n\n\nProfile\n\n\nSunil Bhatia is a Professo
 r of Human Development at Connecticut College. His research focuses on the 
 development of self and identity within the postcolonial contexts of migrat
 ion, globalization, neoliberalization and formation of transnational diaspo
 ras. His scholarship specifically examines how concepts such as culture, po
 wer, and representation shape theories of acculturation, racial, and cultur
 al identity in human development, critical and cultural psychology. His pub
 lications include the book, American Karma: Race, culture and identity in t
 he Indian diaspora (2007, New York University Press) and the forthcoming bo
 ok, Decolonizing Psychology: Globalization, Social Justice and Indian Youth
  Identity (Oxford University press).\n\nHis articles have appeared in journ
 als including: American Psychologist, Human Development, and Theory and Psy
 chology. Sunil Bhatia also served as the director of the Holleran Center fo
 r Community Action and Public Policy from 2008-2011 and is an associate edi
 tor of Journal of Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology. In 2014, the Am
 erican Psychological Association elected Sunil as a Fellow for his outstand
 ing contributions to the field of psychology. In December 2014, The America
 n Psychological Association (APA) also selected Sunil for the prestigious A
 PA 2015 Humanitarian of the Year award. This special recognition is given t
 o one psychologist annually amongst its 137,000 members is “the highest hon
 or the association has to recognize humanitarian services by psychologists,
  particularly those working in the field under trying circumstances and wit
 h underserved populations." In 2006, Professor Bhatia received the 2006 Sig
 mund Koch Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology, also by the AP
 A. In 2011, Campus Compact, a national organization, selected Sunil as one 
 of the runners-up for the nationally known Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged
  Faculty Award. This award is bestowed annually to recognize faculty for ex
 emplary leadership in advancing students’ civic learning and community enga
