Vidyanidhee Vanarase, In 2009, FLAME announced the establishment of a new School of Performing Arts. This move was prompted by the success of the Foundation’s thriving program of study in theatre, music and dance. Over the past few years, this has led to much collaboration with renowned arts institutions worldwide and critically acclaimed production tours both in India and abroad. We believe that the teaching and promotion of the performing arts must carry on, and benefit from the innovative methodology and practices encouraged and upheld by FLAME. The undergraduate and post-graduate programs are rooted in the philosophy of liberal education. Students pursuing a program in theatre, music, dance or acting will also take some courses from humanities and social sciences, thus benefiting from a unique pedagogy and all round approach to learning. This makes the FLAME program unique in every sense. Studying performing arts through a strong grounding in skills, development of insight and a disciplined approach will help the students to explore life and free their minds from unnecessary inhibitions. It also inculcates discipline and self-control. The stages of planning, rehearsals and performance open the mind to artistic skills as well as other social and managerial skills. The experience of watching performances and discussing them is a path to self enrichment. We believe that this process would create ‘rasik’ individuals and artists who have a responsibility to society as well as to themselves. |
