“I came to FLAME as a transfer student from Boston University in the 2nd year. Naturally, I was
apprehensive about everything that FLAME had to offer – academics, the campus, student life,
even the food! My first couple of months at FLAME were marked by extremely ambivalent
emotions; there were times when I liked FLAME, there were times when I hated it with all my
heart. In spite of my prejudices, the faculty, staff and my classmates still encouraged me to find
my niche, to find my space in this community of sorts. Over time, I realized that I did not hate
FLAME; I just wanted to hate it. Coupled with this realization was the epiphany that I was the
happiest when I was in classes with my friends, engaged in topics and conversations that were
completely alien to me. " |

“I hated theory. I hated structure. And I came to FLAME to escape it. However, when Freud
started debating over Adler and Jung in a cafe for a Psychology assignment, and when we
found application of theory on film studies in the train travel all over India for DIP, the
structure of the theories stopped being shackles and became fancy tools to experiment with.
Today, I have not only learnt something completely unique to India with the cultural studies
course, but I have taken the theories from these classes into other classes, to the dining hall, to
the movie theatre and to parties in my purse, and the applications to these have just as easily
found ways into conference papers. It is this flexibility of FLAME that brings “textbooks” to
life and makes them our companions." |

“Experimenting with various courses over the last couple of years, has been a very good
experience. I had never thought I would be able to do subjects like Calligraphy, Guitar, Physics
and Ramayana. I’m glad that I got the opportunity to learn and broaden my horizon by
studying subjects from various streams. Combinations of different subjects helped me to look
at things in a unique perspective. I learnt the ability to apply my learning from various
streams into the business courses in the third and the final year at FLAME. For example,
studying psychology in the 2nd year helped me to better understand business courses like
Individual & Group Process and Marketing. Largely, I feel that I’m better equipped than any
other student from the regular 3 year business programs to look at problems and situations
with a large and comprehensive perspective.” |

“FLAME is a home away from home, which blossoms in the heart of nature. FLAME through
these years has exposed me to circumstances that has embedded versatility in my thought
process and help me mature. The experiences at FLAME have taught me lessons that probably
no book could have taught me. The inter-disciplinary studies have widened my approach to
life.
The warm atmosphere at FLAME has led me to a very approachable relationship between the
management and the students, thereby helping me adapt to the environment better.
The concept of residential living has made me self-reliant but at the same time gifted me with
unforgettable memories. The diverse co-curricular activities at FLAME, strikes a balance in the
process of learning and has helped me to excel in different walks of life.

“In life one faces varied experiences, but rarely does one come across a great experience.
FLAME has provided me with the latter. It has not only enhanced my academic skills but also
nurtured my personal growth. In FLAME we are taught to challenge ourselves so that with
each passing day we grow a little more. Today I am much better off than my friends and even
some MBA students because of the level of education offered here.” |
