A view of liberal education from the perspective student of liberal arts

A liberal arts education lasts a lifetime. It will not leave you after your final exam. It will not disappear along with your final thesis. Instead, a liberal arts education will grow tall and strong with each passing day of your life. All your life you can be assured that in despairing times, your education will not fail you. That is the liberal arts.

At the very outset, a liberal arts education comprises the accumulation of general knowledge and a development of the student’s intellect. The sciences and the arts are explored. Languages are deciphered. Life skills are taught. The student is taught how to communicate with others and with himself. Above all else, a liberal arts education trusts its students. It knows that there is magic within the individual that can, and must be unleashed. It values the freedom of the mind. It values individual thinking.

At FLAME, we seek to impart such an education with alacrity. We know that learning by rote is not the answer. We seek to create men and women who can think for themselves, who can explore new waters and walk new paths. Our aim is to give our students what they deserve-an unhindered, uninhibited education.

Perhaps an education that will set them free.
