Career Prospects

The Industry

The mass media industry has been growing rapidly in India outpacing the rate of growth in the entire economy. According to FICCI Price Waterhouse Coopers Study (2006), this sector is expected to grow to Rs 837 billion in 2010 at a compound rate of 19 per cent per annum. Sub-sectors that will have major shares in this business by 2010 are TV (51%), Cinema (18%) and print media (23%).

Talent Gap

Trained manpower in this industry is already in a chronic short supply and the situation is expected to worsen rapidly in the years to come. There are some facilities available for technical training but the quality falls far short of international standards. Management training specifically designed for this industry is almost non-existent in India.
