Why Study Aesthetics?
A nation is judged by posterity not by the strength of its army but principally by its
contributions to the arts and humanities. This has been true throughout history, and it
has become even truer as we expand our potential for making our beautiful planet
uninhabitable through pollution and war. It is the achievements of a civilization in the
arts that remain permanent whilst everything else is swept away by time.
Aesthetics may be defined narrowly as the theory of beauty, or more broadly as that together with the philosophy of art. |

Beauty is a symbol of morality,and the enjoyment of nature is the mark of a good soul. The shared enjoyment of a sunset or a beach shows there is harmony between us all, and the world. Aesthetics, is also a popularly used
noun meaning ‘that which appeals to the senses.’ In this sense, for example,
the aesthetics of mathematics would refer to those things in mathematics which appeal to the senses, and not necessarily a body of philosophical principles on the subject.
Communication theorists generally compare art to a form of language. Art conveys emotions of various kinds, while verbal language conveys thoughts.
