Why Study Economics?

The roots of the word 'Economics' originate with the Greek words 'oikos' (household) and 'nomos' (rules or laws). Economics is often referred to as "The Queen of the Social Sciences" because to master it, one must master many aspects of a liberal arts education. An economics education develops logical, analytical, and critical thinking skills with economic theory, math, and philosophy.

We all make economic decisions every day of our life, and economics can help to improve our decision-making. Economics provides us with the knowledge and insight necessary to understand the impact of developments in business, society, and the world economy. It enables us to understand the decisions of households, firms, and governments based on human behavior, beliefs, structure, constraints, and need. It is concerned with how society sets about meeting people's demands for things they want to consume.
