01. What is FLAME?

FLAME stands for Foundation for Liberal and Management Education and is Section 25 company- a not-for-profit organization. Top

02. What is Liberal Education?

Liberal education is a journey into the realms of knowledge, social awareness, personal development, and individual well-being. It nurtures and fosters individuals, who are grounded in good values and ethics and possess the ability to experience the world from a richer perspective.

03. Why is Liberal Education better than the traditional approaches we have been following for long?

Liberal Education encourages you to (1) think (2) learn on your own – become self-learner, (3) see things in their entirety rather than in bits and pieces, and   (4) lead a happy life.  Liberal Education also makes better teachers.

Most importantly, Liberal Education gives you wider career options viz. Management to Broadcast Journalism, Scientific Researchers to Historians and Art to Marketing. Top

04. What are the degrees offered by FLAME?

FLAME offers 4-year undergraduate programs in the following discipline B.A./B.B.A. degree along with a Diploma in Liberal Education. The number of seats is 120 in the first year.
 
FLAME also offers a two-year PGDM program: in Business, with concentration in H.R. Management, Finance and Accounting and marketing areas along with many other specialisations and electives with 60 seats.

The School of Communication offers an PGDM (Mass Media) with 60 seats. Top

05. Are the Degrees/Diplomas from Flame approved by AICTE/UGC?

Yes, the Degrees/Diplomas from Flame are approved by AICTE.

The PG students will be awarded PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) approved by the AICTE. For your information, the Indian Institutes of Managements also confer the same Diplomas to the students.

Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth will confer the Degrees for the Undergraduate Programs. The Degrees are accepted in India and abroad. Top

08. What is the Fee?

The Total cost for the Undergraduate Program is 3.88 Lakhs per annum. This is inclusive of Tuition Fees, Lodging, Boarding, Library, Text Books and Course Material, Medical Insurance, Sports Fees etc. Laptop costs are additional. There are no hidden costs.

The total cost for the Post Graduate Programs is Rs 5.83 Lakhs p.a. This is inclusive of Tuition Fees, Lodging, Boarding, Library, Text Books and Course Material, Medical Insurance, Sports Fees etc. Laptop costs are additional. There are no hidden costs.

Students have the option to pay the fees in 3 installments or pay the fees upfront. On upfront payment, students can avail of a fee reduction. Top
09. Are there any additional costs?

Under the normal circumstances, the above is inclusive of all expenses. Only under special circumstances, you may have to pay extra for project travelling, etc. Top

10. How do we reach FLAME after admission?

There will be a pick up service from the FLAME city office in Pune to the FLAME campus for the outstation students.  The students will confirm the schedule to the counsellor and adequate arrangements are being made to assist them in reaching the campus. The local students can come on their own or can co-ordinate with the pick up facility. 

The Student Counsellor and facilitators are always available to guide you. Top

11. What is orientation?

There is 2-week orientation programme of the student in which the students will undergo Human Resource Lab in which a group of students will interact and learn about oneself i.e. who we are? what we are? How we engage with the world? What meaning we have given to our experience and to our life in general?
 
The students are also given the campus tour and are familiarised with the facilities. There is also a student, parent and faculty interaction and dinner as a part of the orientation program. Top

13. Where will I live?

Instead of dormitory or a hostel room the students will be sharing an apartment or a bungalow. The purpose of allotting an apartment is to help students learn to manage their space, share it with others and interact with a diverse group of individuals. Top

14. Can I get my own Laptop?

Yes, you can get your own laptop. You have to pay separately for license software, network access, compatibility etc. Top
15. Do you have any foreign Linkages?

The curriculum and pedagogy at Flame is unique and contextual to India’s needs. We do have student exchange programs that students may opt for. Top

Yes, FLAME is offering four languages to opt from

17. How does diversity (in student body-global) helps an individual?

The diverse body of students under one roof will help the individual to learn, share and develop opinions, attitudes, values and beliefs of each others region, community and culture at large. Top

18. What kind of food will I get in the Campus?

We have a team of nutritional experts and they have designed a wholesome, nutritious vegetarian menu for you. The Campus will also have Coffee Shops where you will get a variety of foods. Top

19. Do I have to stay in the Campus? Can I not stay off Campus and pursue my education with Flame?

No, Flame believes that students should live in the Campus alone in order to foster a healthy interaction amongst students and Faculty, it is important that students as well as Faculty live in Campus.

Guru Shishya ethos where you share a special bond between each other, your professors, colleagues, mentors and counsellors. Top

20. How can I socialise with the citizens of Pune?

The Campus is located just 13 Kms from Pune. You can either take the Campus bus that offers a regular shuttle bus service for students to the City. You may also take your two-wheeler to the City.

Flame is also a open campus and encourages citizens to avail of the library facilities, cafetaria, amphitheatre etc. You can always invite your friends and relatives to come and meet you at the Flame campus. Top

21. How is the security arrangement in the campus?

As the campus is not walled the security arrangement is very vigilant. We have video cameras located at the key locations and manned areas to prevent any untoward incident. Top

22. Are there any cultural events on Campus?

Yes, almost every Saturday, there is a cultural event specially organized for the students. This could be a Film Show, a Theatre performance, or a Musical performance. We are also planning to have film festival in the campus. Top

23. How is this program different from others?

24. What sport facilities do you have?

Sports play an important role in the curriculum of both under-graduate and post-graduate programs. We have Olympic size swimming pool, football field, basketball ground, tennis ground, and many other water sports. Top

25. How well is your library equipped?

The area of the Library will be 60,000 sq feet and the volumes will be around 50,000 when complete. In the first year, the Library will be 15000 Sft. with about 10,000 volumes. Top

26. Why do faculties stay on campus?

At FLAME, we believe that learning happens both inside and outside the Classrooms. Each student has a mentor and a counselor who guides and helps the student not only through their academic challenges but also their adjustment issues. Top

27. What is Mentoring?

Mentoring enables you to connect with the subject through continuous dialogue with the professors in an informal environment; the faculty will spend 6 hours per week with students outside the classroom. Students can talk, discuss and receive guidance, address their confusions and fears; answer questions, involve them in research to facilitate their interest in the subject. Top

28. What is counseling?

FLAME will have a dedicated career-counseling center. The primary aim of this center will be to help students discover their potential, guide, and counsel them to make proper career choices. The counselor also helps you deal with your day-to-day emotional issues.
In short, they will be encouraged to develop their talent and skills in tune with their interests and aptitude. Top

29. What is the difference between mentoring and counseling?

A mentor helps you through your courses, academics, and curriculum. The counselor helps you with dealing with your day-to-day issues about adjustment to campus life, peer issues, and managing your life in general. Top

30. What is unique about the FLAME undergraduate program?
  • FULLY RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM: The ‘liberal education’ mode of teaching. Wherein, students after 12 std. will be given admission for a 4 year study span based on ‘Guru-Shishya’ ethos– i.e. the teachers and students will live on campus [ mentorship ]
  • DUAL DEGREE : By the end of 4 years one will receive a degree + a diploma [ e g. A  B.A. degree in economics and a diploma in Liberal Education.
  • BEYOND CAMPUS: A ‘ Discover India’ trimester, wherein a student goes on a study tour in the country.
  • LIFE SKILLS: Introduction to ‘Life Skills’, NGO activities as a part of the curriculum, compulsory sports and yoga are some features rarely seen in any college curriculum with a purpose of grooming ‘holistic’ human beings.  Students may choose to take any stream in any trimester. They may choose to swap 1 subject with another stream.

31. What is the eligibility and qualifying criteria of Undergraduate programme of FLAME?

The eligibility criteria for undergraduate program is 12th/ or IB pass out in any stream

The Selection is based on the Entrance Test that includes:

  • Holistic Case study
  • Opportunity mapping exercise
  • Personality testing exercise
  • Group Interaction
  • Personal Interview

The selection criteria will also consider:

Grades of higher secondary, standardized test scores, independent work, and students’ interests / achievements outside the classroom. Top

32. What is the eligibility and qualifying criteria of Postgraduate programme of FLAME?

The eligibility criteria for Postgraduate program is recognized graduation degree in any stream

The Selection is based on the Entrance Test that includes:

  • Holistic Case study
  • Opportunity mapping exercise
  • Personality testing exercise
  • Group Interaction
  • Personnel Interview

Students with work experience will get extra Weight age.
The students have to do fairly well in all the fields of the selection procedure. Top

33. Why are you conducting your own entrance test?

FLAME is conducting their own entrance test to identify the individuals potential at the initial stage of the exam. Apart from the IQ we are also assessing the EQ of the individual. The resultant score will enable us to identify the individual who can be groomed and nurtured for meeting the requirements for the industry and society. Top

34. Do you have scholarship scheme?

Yes, we do have a scholarship scheme. The scholarship committee will review the potential of the candidate and then award the scholarship. The scholarship is only on the tuition fee. FLAME will ensure ‘opportunities for all’ by developing scholarship programs and will support motivated individuals from all strata of society. Top

35. What is unique about FLAME PGDM?

The course is anchored in Liberal Education for holistic growth and development and some options in humanities and creative arts will be available to students as study subjects in addition to management science subjects. Top

36. How is PGDM (Communication) different from PGDM?

In PGDM (Communication ), we cover all major areas in mass media such as filmmaking, TV, and broadcast journalism in addition to regular management areas such as marketing, finance and organizational behaviour. It is designed to cover creative, technical, managerial and business aspects of mass media industries. Top
37. Are there any extra costs involved in doing hands-on projects under PGDM (Communication)?

There are no hidden costs involved. All equipment and facilities including camera, recorders, editing suite, audio studio etc will be provided free of charge to students in within limits prescribed for different projects. All work is done on digital, re-usable media that is supplied free. Incidental expenses such as conveyance etc have to be borne by the students. Top
38. What kind of jobs can a student get after completing PGDM (Communication)?

Graduates with PGDM (Communication) will start as executives in TV channels, TV and film production houses, advertising agencies, publishing houses and other media companies besides banks, financial institutes and governmental agencies dealing with mass media. Students are also encouraged to be entrepreneurs and become filmmakers, ad-film- makers, TV producers on their own. Top
39. What is the salary level one can expect after completing PGDM (Communication)?

Given the chronic shortage of talented and trained manpower in media we expect media companies to offer significantly higher salaries to PGDM (Communication)’s than what PGDM’s without specialized media training would get.

40. Does FLAME provide placement assistance?
  • Yes, the companies will be invited to conduct on-campus recruitment. We already have direct interaction with more than 1200 corporate across the country and we are networking globally through COGE.
  • FLAME will also have its own placement office.
