With main focus on Cultural Studies, Prof. Paturi’s teaching and research work covers areas of Literature, Linguistics, Cultural Anthropology, Comparative Studies such as Comparative Religion, Comparative Literature, Comparative Linguistics, Comparative Aesthetics etc., Folkloristic/ Folk Culture Studies, Inter–cultural interface studies, Ecological study of Literature and Culture, Performing arts research, and communication–studies

Prof Paturi has taught at the Department of South Asian Literatures and Civilizations, University of Chicago, USA before he was a teacher and researcher at the University of Hyderabad.
He has worked on popularizing the Vedic and other Ancient Indian Sciences besides other indigenous knowledge systems of India. The broad, holistic and interdisciplinary perspective that he pursues in his academics covers diverse areas such as Geography, History, Political Science, Law and Economics.
Prof. Paturi works on Indian Philosophy particularly Vedanta and its different schools. He also has a fairly long experience in teaching Indian languages and cultures to foreigners.
Prof Paturi’s pursuits developed him into an academic personality cut out for the advocacy and implementation of Liberal Education.
His research findings for degrees were the discovery of Paninian ‘linguistic theory’ in Vakyapadiyam of Bhartr Hari (M.Phil) and discovery of an Indian/Vedic model of Myth analysis along the lines of contemporary Anthropological, Psychoanalytical, Philosophical and Poetic theories of Myth and its application to classical Indian poetic literature (PhD).
His major research projects explored religious cults of shepherd–communities of the Andhra–Karnataka–Maharashtra region, religious transvestites of the same area, mystic spiritual cults, street–side performers, folk–classical interface in performing arts and religion, the Bonalu and other mother goddess ritual festivals.
Prof. Paturi has been a resource person for bodies such as CIIL (Central Institute of Indian Languages), CCRT (Center for Cultural Resources and Training)
