"Persian Travelers in Mughal India" - A Talk by Dr. Sunil Sharma, Boston University
Sunil Sharma is Professor of Persian & Indian Literatures at Boston University's Department of World Languages & Literatures. He has authored a number of books and articles on a broad range of subjects from Indo-Persian literature, visual cultures, and travel writing.
This talk will focus on the phenomenon of Persian travelers to India at the Mughal court. What distinguished writing by Iranians on India from Arab and European travel accounts is a highly developed poetic style and a more complex degree of engagement with the cultures of the subcontinent, which for many was both a familiar and exotic place at the same time.
