India’s Investment Management Industry Landscape
Mr. Sampath Reddy, CIO, Equities at Bajaj Alliance Life Insurance, an MBA and a CFA charter holder by education, visited Foundation for Liberal and Management Education on 5th March, 2011, to address the students of the FLAME Investment Lab (FIL).

He gave an overview about India’s Investment Management Industry, reflecting on the evolution of India’s mutual fund industry. He commenced his address giving a macro overview on where India stands in terms of world GDP and world market capitalization. India is in the top 10 bracket when it comes to GDP and market capitalization. Additionally India also has one of the fastest growth rates.

Mr. Reddy then moved on to give a snapshot on the current liquidity scenario and its impact on asset prices. Commenting on the evolution of the mutual fund industry, Mr. Reddy said: “Retail participation remains very low which provides great optimism on savings being channelized through this route.”

He concluded by presenting the investment opportunities in different asset classes like equities, fixed income, commodities and precious metals. The address was very engaging and gave the members of the FLAME Investment Lab a new perspective to think about.
