“Leadership is the art of accomplishing more than the science of management says is possible” quoted Mr. Ameet Desai, CEO, Adani Power, who visited FLAME campus on 25th March 2011, to address the students on the topic, ‘Leadership Era and Consistent Elements’.
Mr. Desai spoke of Mahatma Gandhi and Sir Winston Churchil and identified various leadership qualities that we should acquire from them. He shared several stories about the Cadogan and few others by Ogilvy to demonstrate the importance of right attitude for a leader. He pointed out that, there is always a missing link between aspirations and results. “Execution - getting the task done / making it happen - is the most unappreciated skill of an effective business leader” he said.
He talked a great length about extracts on leadership lessons, by General Colin Powell. “The history of the world is full of men who rose to leadership, by sheer force of self-confidence, bravery and tenacity” he quoted, emphasizing on the importance of getting inspired by great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Sir Winston Churchill. He talked a great length on the lessons of ‘Tyajya and Grahya’, the lessons preached by Mahatma.
He took the session to another dimension by giving examples of great leaders and their achievements, thus urged the students to revere them. He gave several mantra of honing leadership skills, but he concluded by saying, ‘To be a good leader, one needs to be a good follower’. The session ended with three mantras of becoming a great leader, he said, are, “Getting it done, getting it done right and getting it done better than the next guy, is the winning difference”.
